Southampton are confident of striking a deal for Reims centre-back Axel Disasi, according to a report.

Southampton are reportedly confident of winning the race to secure the services of Reims defender Axel Disasi.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a successful 2019-20 campaign in the heart of the Reims defence, conceding just 21 goals from 28 games in the recently-abandoned Ligue 1 season.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were both previously credited with an interest in the 6ft 3in centre-back, but according to the Daily Mail, Southampton are leading the race for Disasi's signature.

The report claims that Arsenal have ended their interest as they prepare to welcome William Saliba back to the Emirates this summer, and Southampton's players are relaxed over the club's transfer plans after their 10% wage deferral.

Disasi's current deal at Reims will expire next summer, and the defender will supposedly cost in the region of £13m.
