Manchester United are reportedly considering a £70m swoop for Sporting Lisbon and Portugal attacker Francisco Trincao, whose release clause stands at £50m.

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to pay over the release clause of Francisco Trincao in order to land the attacker.

While some players have taken a well-earned rest over the international period, 25-year-old Trincao has played the role of Portuguese hero in the UEFA Nations League.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man netted a brace off the bench for Cristiano Ronaldo and company during the second leg of their quarter-final clash with Denmark.

Portugal went on to defeat the Danes after extra time, meaning that Roberto Martinez's troops will compete in the final four of the tournament over the summer.

Trincao is set to return to Primeira Liga action for Sporting Lisbon on Saturday afternoon when a trip to Estrela da Amadora is scheduled.

Man United to pay £70m for Trincao this summer?

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are huge admirers of Sporting Lisbon star Trincao, largely down to the influence of former boss Ruben Amorim, who is now in the hotseat at Old Trafford.

It is understood that the Portuguese coach is keen on bringing the 25-year-old to the Theatre of Dreams before the commencement of the 2025-26 campaign.

Trincao has a release clause totalling £50m in his current deal, however the Red Devils could be forking out well over that price for the attacker.

Selling the Portugal international to Sporting during the summer of 2023, Barcelona have a 50% sell-on clause inserted in that particular deal.

With the Primeira Liga giants supposedly aiming to pocket £35m from the sale of Trincao, such conditions mean that Man United might be asked to pay £70m for the player.

Who else could Amorim lure to Old Trafford?

The jewel in the crown of Sporting Lisbon's attack, Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move away from the Primeira Liga this summer.

However, it is understood that the Swede is demanding Champions League football, a luxury that Man United could be without next term under Amorim.

The Red Devils will need to win this season's Europa League in order to qualify for UEFA's elite club competition, with the English giants currently languishing down in 13th position in the Premier League standings.
