Roy Hodgson had no worries about Jack Wilshere's fitness

England boss Roy Hodgson claims that he was never in any doubt about Jack Wilshere's fitness ahead of the World Cup.

England boss Roy Hodgson has claimed that he was never in any doubt about Jack Wilshere's fitness ahead of the World Cup.

The Arsenal midfielder hurt his foot in the 1-0 win over Denmark back in March, and there were fears that the Gunners man would not be ready in time for the Brazil tournament.

However, Hodgson stated that he always knew Wilshere would be given the best chance of making it by his club's medical team and manager Arsene Wenger.

He told reporters: "I was never worried about Jack. I think Arsene is a very well balanced and intelligent coach and he realises Jack has an opportunity to do well here, so he didn't bring him back from injury too early.

"It's a squad I've chosen that I'm very pleased with. You won't hear any excuses from myself or [captain] Steven Gerrard. We believe we're in the right place to do this."

England host Peru on Friday, before jetting off to Miami for friendlies with Ecuador and Honduras on June 7 and 10 respectively.
