England's Roy Hodgson: 'No excuses if anything untoward happens at World Cup'

Roy Hodgson insists that there will be "no excuses" should England fail at the World Cup in Brazil next month.

England manager Roy Hodgson has insisted that there will be "no excuses" should the nation fail to impress at the World Cup in Brazil.

The Three Lions will begin their campaign with a Group D clash against Italy in Manaus on June 14.

This will be the second major tournament under the guidance of Hodgson, who took England into Euro 2012 following Fabio Capello's departure.

"Going into this tournament I've been with the team for two years and feel more at home in the role and more aware of what's needed, what I can bring and what the players can bring," Hodgson said in a press conference.

"You won't hear any excuses if anything untoward happens because we think we're in the right place."

England will also face Uruguay and Costa Rica in the group phase.
