Jack Wilshere: 'World Cup place not guaranteed'

Jack Wilshere insists that he is not getting complacent about his place in England's World Cup squad.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has insisted that he is not taking his place in England's 2014 World Cup squad for granted.

Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson will name his provisional 30-man squad for next summer's tournament in Brazil on May 13.

"That is where you are going to get into the England World Cup squad – by playing well for your club, then you are going to get picked for your country," Sky Sports News quotes him as saying. "You have seen over the last couple of months that the talent there is, even in the U21s, with Ravel Morrison and all these players coming through.

"You are never guaranteed and cannot rest on your laurels. You are only as good as your last game, they say, so when the time comes, I have to be on top form and there will be a lot of players looking to be as well.

"At club level, there are a lot of games, so we are not thinking about the World Cup at the moment. Once March comes, the World Cup will be just around the corner and then it will be fresh in our minds."

Wilshere has played 14 times for England so far in his career.
