Darren Bent: 'Paul Lambert taking Villa in wrong direction'

Aston Villa outcast Darren Bent claims that under-fire manager Paul Lambert is taking the Premier League club in the "wrong direction".

Aston Villa outcast Darren Bent has claimed that manager Paul Lambert is taking the club in the "wrong direction".

The Scot is finding himself under increasing pressure following a run of two wins and seven goals in 17 Premier League games.

Bent has not been given an opportunity to help Villa improve this form as he has been sent on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County respectively this season, with Lambert suggesting that the striker only has himself to blame for not getting in the team.

The former England international is not interested in revisiting personal feuds, but is concerned with the situation at his parent club and feels that Lambert is one of the problems.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "There were comments in the press from the Villa manager, I don't concentrate on that, he needs to concentrate on what he is doing.

"Aston Villa are a fantastic club and he is taking them in the wrong direction."

Bent, who joined Villa for £18m in January 2011 but has not started a Premier League game since May 2013, scored for Derby on Saturday as they beat Chesterfield 2-0 in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
