Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia reportedly considers selling the club to a consortium.

A group of British businessmen is reportedly planning to launch a takeover bid for Aston Villa.

The Villans' current owner Dr Tony Xia is ready to sell the club following their failed attempt to secure promotion to the Premier League last season, according to The Sun.

The consortium is said to be headed up by fitness entrepreneur and former football agent Matt Southall, and also has ex-Blackburn Rovers director of football and operations Paul Senior among its ranks.

Xia is allegedly considering cutting his losses on Villa, rather than slashing his wage bill for next season to comply with UEFA Financial Fair Play Regulations.

The report suggests that the Chinese businessman would be willing to sell up if he can recoup the £60m he paid Randy Lerner for Villa in 2016.
