Steve Evans heaps praise on Paul Lambert

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans feels that Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert can eventually become a manager of one of the "top four or five" teams in the Premier League.

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has tipped Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert to one day manage one of the "top four or five" teams in the Premier League.

Evans's side were beaten 3-0 by Villa in the League Cup on Wednesday evening and the Rotherham boss feels that his fellow Glaswegian has what it takes to become one of the top managers in England.

"I think he will end up managing one of the top four or five clubs, whether that is in England or Germany where he is highly regarded," Evans told reporters.

"I know him from when he was growing up with holes in his shoes in Glasgow. I think he was a fantastic player, I watched him many times when he played for Celtic and you only need to look at the job he did at Norwich to see how good he is.

"When he signed Christian Benteke everyone was saying 'Benteke who?' - now everyone in football knows who he is. This is a real big football club that has been struggling for a couple of years but I think everyone in football recognises Paul is making an impact here and he could bring the magical days back."

Villa will play Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the League Cup.
