Paul Lambert: 'Win would keep us up'

Paul Lambert believes that a win over Hull City should be enough to secure Aston Villa's top-flight status for another season.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted that a win against Hull City on Saturday afternoon should be enough to keep his side in the Premier League for another season.

The Villans are currently 16th in the Premier League, three points clear of the relegation zone, but are one of the teams that the bottom three can still catch in order to survive.

However, Lambert has urged his side to focus on taking all three points against Hull, which would almost completely alleviate relegation fears.

"If we win then it virtually gets us out of the relegation battle," he told Sky Sports News. "That's how big the game is. Everybody knows it. I said the other day that this is like a cup final and we're at home, with the backing of 38,000 people.

"That will have to drive us on as well and if the lads perform against a good side who have had a really good season then we'll do it. The ironic thing is that if we win, we go above Hull."

Villa have not won since they beat Chelsea 1-0 on March 15.
