Aston Villa are reportedly weighing up a bid for Stoke City keeper Jack Butland after losing Tom Heaton to injury against Burnley on New Year's Day.

Aston Villa have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Stoke City keeper Jack Butland after losing Tom Heaton to injury against Burnley on New Year's Day.

Heaton picked up a knee injury during a 2-1 win over Sean Dyche's side and is expected to be out for the rest of the 2019-20 campaign.

Young goalkeeper Matija Sarkic will be recalled from a loan spell at Livingston following Heaton's injury, while Orjan Nyland will be between the sticks for Saturday's FA Cup third-round meeting with Fulham,

According to the Daily Mail, Butland has emerged on Villa's radar as the Midlands side looks to secure cover for Heaton in this month's transfer window.

Stoke, who are struggling in the Championship this season, were open to the prospect of selling Butland - one of the club's highest earners - over the summer.

Villa suffered another major injury blow in the form of striker Wesley, with the new signing also set to miss the rest of the campaign with a knee problem.
