Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has dismissed speculation claiming that the club were in talks to sign Porto midfielder Steven Defour.
The 25-year-old's agent said earlier this month that the Premier League side had declared their interest in signing the Belgian international.
However, when asked about the reports regarding Defour, Lambert told the Birmingham Mail: "No, there's nothing in that. I've not seen that one.
"There's no point talking about somebody else's player. You look at other things and other options and if you can do it you look to do it.
"There are a few number 10s I looked at, as I call them, and some we just can't do. There's other positions I'd like to strengthen. We're trying to bring in a couple."
Villa have also been linked with a bid for Norwich City midfielder Wes Hoolahan.
