Southampton left-back Matt Targett is reportedly on newly-promoted Aston Villa's list of defensive targets ahead of their Premier League return.
The Villans were promoted from the Championship last month and are looking to shore up their back four ahead of the new campaign.
Neil Taylor is currently the only senior left-back in Villa's squad but, according to the Express & Star, Dean Smith is working to bring in cover and Targett is one of his targets.
The report indicates that Smith's side are preparing an £8m offer for the ex-England Under-21s international, who has also been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal.
Villa have already brought in versatile Kortney Hause from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a permanent deal this summer, but he is considered more as a centre-back.
