Diego Godin header wins it for Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid squeeze past Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey thanks to a header from Diego Godin.

Atletico Madrid have edged out Athletic Bilbao 1-0 at Vicente Calderon in their Copa del Rey quarter-final first leg this evening.

Los Rojiblancos took the lead shortly before half time when Koke swung in a cross for Diego Godin to attack, and the Uruguayan defender steered the header home from around 10 yards out.

Earlier in the game, Ander Herrera missed a chance for the visitors when he fired over the bar on his weaker left foot after working his way inside the penalty area.

Oscar de Marcos had a chance for Athletic just before the hour mark, but his long-range effort was just wide of the post with Thibaut Courtois at full stretch.

Godin nearly added a second in similar circumstances when he narrowly missed Raul Garcia's cross towards the end of the game.
