Atletico Madrid midfielder Gabi: 'I did handle ball late on'

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi concedes that the referee could have awarded a late penalty against his team in Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final with Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Gabi has conceded that he might have been fortunate to escape conceding a late penalty in Wednesday's Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Two goals from Antoine Griezmann saw Atletico record a 2-0 victory to make the semi-finals of the competition, but there was controversy late on when Gabi appeared to handle inside the box.

The referee instead pointed for a free kick just outside the area and Lionel Messi curled the resulting set piece over the crossbar as Barcelona went out in the quarter-finals to Atletico once again.

"It was a handball, I don't know if it was inside or outside. Sometimes you get them, sometimes not," Gabi told reporters.

Atletico have joined Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the final four of the competition.
