Diego Simeone pays tribute to Reus Deportiu

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone praises Reus Deportiu for their performance in Tuesday's Copa del Rey last-32 second leg between the two teams.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has praised Tuesday's Copa del Rey opponents Reus Deportiu for their performance at the Vicente Calderon.

Reus, who play their football in the Segunda B, took the lead in Madrid, before goals from Luciano Vietto and Saul Niguez secured a 2-1 first-leg lead for the capital giants.

Simeone refused to criticise his own team's performance and instead focused on their opponents, who the Argentine said "gave a good account of themselves".

"The tie is tight. It's not a comfortable result. Reus are a competitive team, have a lot of the ball, good organisation, gave a good account of themselves. They weren't desperate and had rhythm in the match," Simeone told reporters.

"It was a competitive game and they were in it and the result. I saw a very strong team on the field."

The second leg of the last-32 clash will take place on December 17.
