Atletico Madrid see off Elche to reach last 16 of Copa del Rey

Atletico Madrid reach the last 16 of the Copa del Rey thanks to a 3-0 win over Elche at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night for a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Atletico Madrid have reached the last 16 of the Copa del Rey thanks to a 3-0 win over Elche which sees Diego Simeone's side progress 4-1 on aggregate.

Level at 1-1 from last month's first leg at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero, Los Colchoneros never looked in danger of a giant-killing at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night.

Atleti needed some time to click as they wasted several opportunities early on but were ahead in the 31st minute as Jose Gimenez headed home at the back post.

Two minutes later the hosts doubled their advantage through Fernando Torres, producing a clinical finish for his first goal at the new Atletico home ground.

With Elche rattled, Simeone's charges continued to push forward after the break, although they fluffed several chances as they did early in the first half.

Torres, however, made sure of victory with his second of the night on 68 minutes, drilling home after connecting with Sime Vrsaljko's cross to see his side through to the last 16 of the competition.

Atletico Madrid (4-4-2): Moya; Thomas (Vrsaljko 66'), Savic, Gimenez, Gomez; Gaitan, Fernandez, Koke (Niguez 71'), Carrasco; Vietto, Torres

Elche (4-4-2): Vallejo, Blazquez, Golobart, Albacar, Peris (Flores 45'), Sanchez (Lolo 71'), Verdul, Provencio, Benito (Gomez 45'), Kaba, Nino
