Diego Simeone 'not ready' for international management

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone insists that he is some way off being ready to become head coach of Argentina.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has insisted that he is some way off being ready to step into international management.

The Argentine is currently the most in-demand manager in European football following his success at Atletico over the last few seasons.

It is widely thought that Simeone will coach his national team in the future, but the 44-year-old has claimed that will not happen for some time.

"In coaching terms, I think it's a place for a grandfather – someone more serene and composed who can see things in a different way. I still feel I need to be on the pitch, doing training and being with players day-in, day-out," he told FIFA.com.

"The national team cannot give you that. Is it something I'd like to do one day? Absolutely! I spent 12 or 14 years with the team – it was a privileged time and very much part of my life. Hopefully it will come to pass at the perfect time for both parties."

Simeone made 106 appearances for Argentina between 1988 and 2002.
