Gerardo Martino admits to "monumental mistakes" at Barcelona

Gerardo Martino admits that he made some "monumental mistakes" during his reign as Barcelona head coach.

Gerardo Martino has admitted that he made "monumental mistakes" during his one-season reign at Barcelona.

The 52-year-old made way for Luis Enrique in the summer after failing to deliver success in La Liga and the Champions League, and he believes that the blame for the disappointment must be placed at his own door.

"I didn't make any mark on Barcelona, it was a blip in my career in terms of what I did as a coach," Martino, who was named Argentina head coach in August, told reporters.

"It would be logical to use the term failure. I went to a team that always won and didn't win anything while I was there. The Supercopa is next to nothing for Barcelona.

"All I learned in Barcelona was about being surrounded by stars, by the best in the world. I made some monumental mistakes with Barcelona. What were they? I will tell you in another life."

A draw with Atletico Madrid on the final day of last season cost Martino the chance to lift the league title.
