Mario Suarez calls for focus

Mario Suarez admits that it is vital that Atletico Madrid stay in touch at the top of La Liga in the early part of the season.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez has called on his team to continue their winning run after picking up all three points against Getafe on Sunday evening.

The Spanish champions came under pressure in the latter stages of the Madrid derby last night, but held on to move just two points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona after nine games of the season.

"They made it closer in the second half and thank God we held on to the three points," he told AS.

"It's been shown here we need to improve. We follow our way of doing things, we won and we must go on.

"Mario Mandzukic is doing a good job for the team, plus to score a goal is good for him and for the team. Hopefully it stays that way in front of goal."

Suarez has recently returned to the Atletico XI after struggling to secure a run of games in the early part of the campaign.
