Sean Higgins scored twice in the dying minutes as Stenhousemuir came from behind to continue their strong start to life under new manager Scott Booth with victory at Ayr United in Scottish League One.
Two goals in as many minutes from Michael Moffat and Alan Forrest had put Ayr in front, but Higgins equalised from the spot, before winning the game in stoppage time to edge Stenny closer to the promotion playoff places.
Dunfermline extended their lead over third-placed Stranraer to 10 points, with a late Ross Millen penalty guiding the Pars to a 2-1 win over Brechin City at East End Park.
Stranraer had been set to register a win against lowly Airdrieonians through Jamie Longworth's 50th-minute strike, but Scott Rumsby put through his own goal to gift the visitors a point to boost their survival hopes.
East Fife's own quest to avoid a relegation playoff was helped by goals from Liam Buchanan and Nathan Austin, as they came from behind to beat Forfar Athletic.
