Philipp Lahm: 'Damage was done in first leg'

Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm admits that his team were never likely to turn around their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm has admitted that his team lost their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona in the first leg last week.

Bayern were 3-2 winners in the second leg at the Allianz on Tuesday, but were eliminated from the competition 5-3 on aggregate after losing the reverse game 3-0 last Wednesday.

Lahm also paid tribute to the fans in Munich, who backed their team until the final whistle.

"The fans have been really great today. We believed in the miracle, but we couldn't make it happen. It's impossible to stop those players for the whole 90 minutes. We didn't lose it today, but in the first leg," Lahm told UEFA.com.

Bayern have been eliminated in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the second successive season.
