Victor Wanyama: 'We have to keep the ball in Champions League matches'

Victor Wanyama believes that Celtic have learned how to play in the Champions League from their match against Barcelona.

Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama believes that his side can progress to the Champions League last 16 if they play like they did against Barcelona.

The Scottish champions defeated Tito Vilanova's side 2-1 in Glasgow in Group G earlier this month.

"We learned against Barca that we have to keep the ball and try to break them down on the counter," he told UEFA.com. "That's something we're good at and if we do it well, we'll get results against many teams."

Wanyama also reflected on his experience of playing against Barcelona midfielder Xavi at Celtic Park.

"He's one of the best in the world, so good! It's hard to match him – he never loses the ball – and it's tough to get around him," said the 21-year-old. "You never get him easy, you have to be sharp to win the ball."

Wanyama joined Celtic from Beerschot AC in 2011.
