Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is expected to miss Spain's campaign in this summer's European Championships after suffering a knee injury.
The 34-year-old is a major doubt for the tournament after the Spanish giants confirmed that the defender will be sidelined for six weeks after undergoing surgery in order to overcome the problem.
A statement on Barca's official website said: "After tests were conducted it was decided the player would have arthroscopic surgery next Saturday, May 12."
Spain, who are favourites to win the Euros, are scheduled to face their first Group C clash on June 10 against Italy.
