David Villa backs under-fire Luis Enrique

Former Barcelona forward David Villa backs Luis Enrique to lead the Catalan outfit to silverware this season.

New York City striker David Villa has backed Barcelona boss Luis Enrique to lead the Catalan outfit to silverware this season.

Enrique replaced Gerardo Martino at the helm before the start of the season and was initially well received by the supporters.

However, the Spaniard has come under pressure for a perceived change of playing style in recent weeks.

Villa, however, is confident that Enrique and indeed Barcelona will "have a great 2015".

"Luis Enrique it totally prepared for the job because he knows the club inside out," Villa told reporters.

"People at Barcelona love him and he has what it takes. He has the right grounding as a coach and the right players in his squad.

"He gained a lot of experience after he left the club to begin his coaching career and is perfectly capable of getting success, so I hope both he and Barca have a great 2015."

Villa, 33, represented Barcelona between 2010 and 2013.
