Lionel Messi rubbishes claims that Barcelona's success in recent years is purely down to his brilliance, instead saying it is down to each player working as one.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has claimed that a team of organised players will trump a side boasting world-class stars.

The Argentina international has won the Ballon d'Or five times during his spell at Camp Nou and helped the Catalan giants to the La Liga crown in successive seasons.

Barcelona have been accused of being overly reliant on the 29-year-old in recent years, but Messi himself insists that he could not have achieved any of his individual accolades had it not been for the players around him.

"I think it is organisation," he told Sky Sports News when asked about the key to success. "Nowadays more than ever, having a team which is organised, compact and knows how to react to every circumstance is the most important thing.

"Achievements are made when you have a good team which works hard and I think everything starts with the organisation. I've been asked several times before and every time I answer the same. I play for Barcelona, the best team in the world, and it doesn't rely on any one player."

Barcelona have stuttered in the Spanish top flight in recent weeks, claiming just two points from the last six on offer in games against Malaga and Real Sociedad.
