Jordi Mestre: 'Neymar is happy at Barcelona'

Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre is confident that Brazil captain Neymar will sign a new and improved contract with the Catalan club.

Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre has said that he sees "absolutely no reason" why Neymar would want to leave the Catalan outfit.

The Brazil captain, who was named the third-best player of 2015 at the Ballon d'Or ceremony earlier this month, has been linked with both Real Madrid and Manchester United in recent weeks.

It is understood that Barcelona are preparing to offer the 23-year-old a new and improved contract, however, and Mestre has claimed that Neymar is "very happy" with life at Camp Nou.

"I see absolutely no reason why Neymar would want to leave Barcelona. He is proving to be a great player, a world-class attacker. We are very happy with his performances," Mestre told Marca.

"I don't know whether Florentino Perez watched his game against Athletic, but it is clear that people who like football like a lot of our players.

"For me, Neymar seems very happy here. He has won titles, has made the Ballon d'Or podium, he looks happy to me and I cannot see why he would want to move."

Neymar, who has scored 21 goals in 26 games this season, is contracted to Barcelona until the summer of 2018.
