New York City FC have not given up on luring Barcelona midfielder Xavi to the USA.
The 35-year-old was linked with a move to the MLS expansion side last year, but opted to remain at the Camp Nou.
However, New York City's sporting director Claudio Reyna has revealed that the club may return with another offer for Spanish international next year.
"We are very interested in 'franchise' players like Xavi. We do not close the doors to Xavi ahead of next year," Reyna told TV3.
"It's true that we have already tried to sign him, but next year we will need new franchise players."
Xavi has made over 700 appearances for Barcelona, but his current deal at the club expires at the end of next season.
