Keith Hill slams referee performance

Barnsley boss Keith Hill slams the referee's decision to allow Sheffield Wednesday's solitary goal in the Yorkshire derby to stand.

Barnsley boss Keith Hill has slammed Stuart Attwell's refereeing performance in his side's 1-0 loss to fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

Attwell failed to spot a foul on Barnsley keeper Luke Steele in the build-up to the solitary goal of the match, a decision which Hill believes could be "catastrophic".

The 43-year-old hinted that poor refereeing decisions have played a major part in his side going 11 games without a win, a run that he fears could cost him his job.

"The referee gets it wrong and the ramifications of him getting that decision wrong could be catastrophic, the result has been decided by that decision," said Hill.

"The second half I was pleased, we had more than enough opportunities to get something out of the game. I just thought it was a difficult game for the referee. He will be disappointed with his performance when he comes to digest it.

"Unfortunately I don't have a second job to go to on Monday and I have to deal with it. It's happening on too many occasions that games are being decided by catastrophic refereeing decisions and we have been on the end of too many. I was pleased with how the players handled the occasion and I saw us strive to get something out of the game but unfortunately it didn't materialise."

Wednesday boss Dave Jones also criticised the referee's performance, while striker Gary Madine admitted after the match that he had fouled the keeper.
