Matthias Sammer believes that Bayern Munich's impressive start to the Bundesliga campaign is down to the "hard work" of coach Jupp Heynckes.

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has praised coach Jupp Heynckes for their impressive start to the season.

The Bavarian giants have won all of their eight Bundesliga games so far and are five points clear at the top of the table.

"The situation that we find ourselves in now is because of the absolute hard work of Jupp Heynckes," he told Sport 1.

"He is incredibly clear in his communication within the club and the team. He is clear in his areas of responsibility and what he asks of the players.

"It is an honour for me and a joy to experience. When I talk with our coach, I admire his composure and his football expertise. It is a great pleasure for me to work for Bayern Munich on a daily basis."

Bayern will take on Lille in France in the Champions League on Tuesday.
