Half-Time Report: Augsburg leading Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are behind at the half-time break after Alexander Esswein's goal handed Augsburg a 1-0 lead.

Alexander Esswein has given Augsburg a surprise 1-0 lead over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Predictably, Bayern dominated possession early on but Augsburg threatened first when Esswein shot just wide from an inviting cross.

Pep Guardiola's side were soon in control of the match and Augsburg were rescued by Marwin Hitz, who made an impressive save to keep out Thiago Alcantara's header.

Augsburg dropped deeper as the first half progressed, but they refused to offer any freedom to the likes of Douglas Costa and Thomas Muller for long spells.

However, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock just before the break when Essweing capitalised on space to send an effort past Manuel Neuer from the edge of the box.
