Bayern Munich to reappoint Louis van Gaal as Carlo Ancelotti successor?

Bayern Munich are reportedly considering reappointing former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal as Carlo Ancelotti's successor.

Bayern Munich are reportedly considering the option of appointing Louis van Gaal as Carlo Ancelotti's successor at the Allianz Arena.

The German champions parted company with Ancelotti last week following a poor start to the season by their own high standards, including a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The search for a replacement is now underway for the Bavarians, with the likes of Diego Simeone, Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Luis Enrique among those to have been linked with the post.

However, German outlet Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung claims that Bayern are looking at the possibility of reappointing Van Gaal, who was previously in charge of the club between 2009 and 2011.

Van Gaal won the double in his first season at the Allianz Arena on that occasion, also steering Bayern to the Champions League final in 2010, where they were beaten by Inter Milan.

The report claims that the Dutchman would take over until the end of the season, after which Bayern hope to replace him with Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Van Gaal has been out of a job since leaving Manchester United in 2016, but has previous when it comes to returning to former clubs having enjoyed two separate spells in charge of AZ, Barcelona and Netherlands in the past.
