Antonio Conte: "The better team won"

Juve manager Antonio Conte admits that his side failed to match the intensity and class of Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena tonight.

Juventus manager Antonio Conte has admitted that his side were unable to match the pace and intensity of Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena this evening.

The Old Lady slipped to a 2-0 defeat in the quarter-final first leg thanks to goals in either half from David Alaba and Thomas Muller.

Conte has insisted that his side gave everything and learned a lot about competing against Europe's best during a difficult night in Munich.

He told Sky Sport Italia: "We certainly faced a very strong team and we didn't need tonight to tell us that. Bayern are among the favourites for the trophy and in my view were very fired up after losing the Final last season on home turf.

"They are physically strong, have quality and great individuals. I cannot complain about what my players did tonight. We have to be honest and say the better team won on the night. Seeing as we are coming back to playing at this level, it has to tell us how far away we are from the top teams in Europe.

"We know football is unpredictable and it'll be an incredibly difficult task to go through, but we take it as experience and try to improve where we need to improve."

Juve return to Serie A action against Pescara this weekend before the second leg against Bayern on Wednesday, April 10.
