Thomas Muller saw many areas of improvement during Bayern Munich's 4-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup on Saturday.

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has admitted that his side did not play well enough in their 4-2 German Super Cup defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Muller said that had his effort that hit the crossbar in the second half gone in, then it may have been a different game, and added that the frailties at the back need to be addressed.

"[Conceding twice soon after our equaliser] clearly means we were doing something wrong," he told Bundesliga.com. "I'll need to take another good look at the whole thing.

"On the positive side we didn't let up, just as we hadn't after going 1-0 behind. After being 3-1 down we came back again - I nearly made it three-all myself. If that had gone in, the game might have taken a different course altogether.

"Instead, we pressed forward, got caught on the break and conceded a fourth goal. I can live with that, but we really needed to hold our shape better, especially when it was 1-1. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone, but it's not good enough."

Bayern won the treble last season under previous coach Jupp Heynckes.
