Bayern Munich's Philipp Lahm refuses to rule out retirement at end of season

Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm says that he will not rule out retiring at the end of the season.

Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm has refused to rule out retiring at the end of the season.

The former Germany international, who will turn 33 on Friday, will not come to the end of his contract for another 18 months.

However, Lahm, who made his first-team debut for Bayern in 2002, has claimed that he may walk away from the sport early.

"I wouldn't rule anything out," Lahm told Bild. "I said nine months ago already that this situation could arise and nothing has changed in how I see this.

"I want to be able to measure myself at the very highest level and be able to recognise myself when the right time is to end my career.

"I certainly won't be determining my future only based on the number of titles we have won at the end of the season, but I will listen to my body and then decide how things go on."

Lahm has won eight Bundesliga titles, seven DFB-Pokal crowns and the Champions League trophy during his time at Bayern.
