Philipp Lahm expecting midfield role at World Cup

Germany's Philipp Lahm is expecting a midfield role at the World Cup.

Germany captain Philipp Lahm has revealed that he is expecting to be deployed in midfield at the World Cup.

Lahm has been a full-back for the majority of his career, but Pep Guardiola switched him into midfield after joining Bayern Munich last summer.

Speaking to The Guardian, Lahm has claimed that he thinks Joachim Low will also ask him to play in the centre of midfield in Brazil.

He said: "You would have to ask the manager, it's not my job to make these considerations public.

"But I played the last test game before the World Cup in midfield, so I'd expect to play there in the competition as well.

"It's possible [to swap positions throughout the tournament] but I have to say that it's not easy for a player to keep changing."

Germany are in Group G alongside Portugal, Ghana and the United States.
