Half-Time Report: Sheffield Wednesday in control against Birmingham City

Sheffield Wednesday hold a 2-0 lead over Birmingham City at half time.

Sheffield Wednesday lead Birmingham City 2-0 in this afternoon's Championship showdown at Hillsborough.

The Blues could have taken the lead as early as the second minute when Jonathan Spector's cross found its way to Tom Adeyemi in front of goal, but the midfielder's header sailed harmlessly wide.

They were left ruing that early miss in the 16th minute as Kieran Lee picked out Caolan Lavery in the danger zone, and the striker drilled an effort into the bottom left corner to give Wednesday the lead.

The Owls added a second in the 21st minute when Leon Best scrambled the ball home from close range after the Birmingham defence failed to deal with a corner kick.

Adeyemi came close to pulling a goal back for the Blues just after an hour's play, but they were unable to get off the mark before the half-time whistle.
