Blackburn owners Venky's are reportedly on the brink of sacking manager Steve Kean following the side's Carling Cup quarter-final exit.

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean is believed to be on the brink of getting sacked by the club's owners Venky's following the dismissal of Sunderland manager Steve Bruce.

The Scotsman has been on shaky ground at Ewood Park, but crashing out of the Carling Cup at the quarter-final stage against Cardiff City on Tuesday could be the final nail in the coffin, according the Daily Star.

Rovers have recorded just one win this season and sit dangerously in the relegation zone of the Premier League table.

It is believed that ex-Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is in the running to succeed Kean, despite being the favourite to replace sacked Steve Bruce.

Rovers take on Swansea City on home turf this Saturday.
