Steve Kean says that bringing Nigerian international Yakubu to Blackburn was not a gamble.

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean has stated that bringing Yakubu to the club was not a gamble.

The 29-year-old's four goals against Swansea last weekend took his haul to nine from just eight Premier League starts since he made the move from Everton in August.

"I had no doubts about signing him because when you look at his record he has scored roughly a goal every two starts at every club he's been at – Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Everton," said Kean.

"He has been punching above that here, which is great news for us. I always felt he would do well for us."

Blackburn could move out of the relegation zone when they visit Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.
