Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston hit with six-week ban

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston is fined £40,000 and banned from football for six weeks after sending offensive text messages to a supporter.

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has been fined £40,000 and banned from any football activity for six weeks by the Football Association after sending an abusive text message to a supporter.

The businessman admitted five breaches of FA rules in relation to the offensive messages, in which he used a derogatory term to describe Tangerines fan Stephen Smith.

The FA has confirmed that Oyston's six-week ban will commence on July 8.

"Blackpool FC chairman Karl Oyston has been sanctioned for five breaches of aggravated misconduct after sending abusive and insulting text messages, with references to disability, to a Blackpool FC supporter in November last year," a statement on the FA's official website read.

"Oyston had admitted the charges and an independent Regulatory Commission ordered he be suspended from all football and football activity for six weeks starting on 8 July 2015 up to and including 18 August. He has also been fined £40,000.

"The suspension includes him from any football activity as Chairman, including prevention of his attendance at any Blackpool FC match during the period, either competitive or friendlies."

Oyston, who has the right to appeal, has been ordered to undergo a mandatory education session by October 10.
