Dave Jones: 'Sheffield Wednesday must fight for their Championship lives'

Dave Jones says that his Sheffield Wednesday players must "fight for their lives" if they are to avoid being relegated from the Championship this season.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones has told his players that they must "fight for their lives" if they are to retain their Championship status beyond this season.

The Owls went down 2-0 to Blackpool at Bloomfield Road this afternoon, as goals from Ricardo Fuller and Dan Gosling in either half proved enough to keep Jones's men in the relegation zone.

Wednesday sit second from bottom, level on points with last-placed Barnsley, having managed just one win all season, and Jones is under no illusions over the scale of the task that his team face in avoiding dropping into League One.

Speaking to his club's official website, the former Cardiff City boss said: "I've just told the players they have to fight for their lives. The players have got to do it for everybody. Everyone at the club has a responsibility to get us out of this position."

Life does not get any easier for the Owls in the coming weeks as they welcome table-toppers Leicester City next weekend.
