Lee Clark off to losing start as Blackpool boss

Lee Clark loses his first match in charge of Championship strugglers Blackpool as goals from David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy earn Ipswich a 2-0 victory.

Ipswich Town spoiled Lee Clark's first match in charge of Blackpool by beating the Championship's bottom club 2-0 with goals either side of half time.

The in-form Tractor Boys almost opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Stephen Hunt crashed a free kick against the crossbar, beating Joe Lewis but not the woodwork.

The basement boys managed to apply some pressure in the first period, with Ishmael Miller going on a mazy run in the 16th minute before lining up Nile Ranger, whose poor first touch saw the move break down.

Blackpool fell behind in the 26th minute when David McGoldrick found himself in the right place at the right time to guide the ball home from six yards following a goalmouth scramble.

The Blackpool players appealed for offside, but the referee waved away their protests and allowed the goal to stand, leaving the Seasiders trailing at the break.

Clark's side struggled to create much in the final third, but Ipswich goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski was forced into action in the 51st minute when Charles Dunne let fly from long range.

They fell further behind just after the hour mark following good work on the touchline by Teddy Bishop, who floated a cross into the area for Daryl Murphy to bury from close range.

Tony McMahon had a stoppage-time opportunity to restore some pride for Blackpool, but a good save from Bialkowski denied the hosts any consolation on an afternoon that Clark will struggle to draw positives from.
