Yeovil Town claim vital win over Blackpool

Yeovil Town secure three vital points against fellow Championship strugglers Blackpool.

Yeovil Town claimed a vital 2-1 win over fellow Championship strugglers Blackpool at Bloomfield Park this afternoon.

The hosts had a chance to open the scoring in the fourth minute when David Goodwillie found space to shoot, but Glovers keeper Chris Dunn saved well to his right.

Yeovil broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 16th minute following a blatant handball in the area by Tony McMahon, with James Hayter rifling home from 12 yards.

Gary Johnson's side had several chances to extend their lead, with Blackpool stopper Matt Gilks doing well to deny first Liam Davis, and then Hayter moments later to keep the scoreline at 1-0.

Blackpool were much improved after the break, creating a flurry of chances in quick succession, the best of which was fired wide by Goodwillie with only the keeper to beat.

However, they were pegged further back in the 74th minute when Tom Lawrence turned in Luke Ayling's cross from close range to put Yeovil in control.

The Seasiders made the latter stages of the match a contest as Elliot Grandin pulled one back with a long range-strike 12 minutes from time, but Yeovil held on for three much-needed points.
