Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that they have launched an "internal investigation" into claims made by a newspaper about their manager Neil Lennon.
The Mirror has alleged that Lennon physically threatened a woman that he had been having a year-long affair with if she told his long-term partner Irene McCloy of his supposed deceit.
The outlet further claimed that the 44-year-old offered the woman in question, who is 20 years his junior, £10,000 in cash to keep quiet.
The Championship club have now responded to the story with a statement that read: "In response to an article published in the Sunday Mirror on Sunday, December 20, Bolton Wanderers can confirm that the club are currently conducting an internal investigation regarding the matter concerned. The club will be making no further comment at this moment in time."
As for Lennon, he is yet to pass comment on the matter.
