The 29-year-old former Everton and Leeds United forward spent the majority of last season on loan at Huddersfield Town.
"We had a bit of a hiccup on Jermaine Beckford but we have probably sorted it out now," Gartside told BBC Sport. "Jermaine will join us in the next couple of days."
Beckford joined Leicester from Everton in the summer of 2011 for £2.5m.
