Borussia Monchengladbach have grabbed a surprise 2-1 win away at Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga this afternoon, thanks to goals from Raffael and Max Kruse.

Jonas Hofmann had Dortmund's first attempt of the game as he fired his long-range effort straight into the arms of the Gladbach keeper, who held firm in the centre of goal.

Patrick Herrmann went close for the visitors when he collected a ball from Christoph Kramer. However, his shot from the left side of the box flew past the right post.

Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski should have put his side in front after 20 minutes, but the Pole headed wide after being found by Marcel Schmelzer's cross.

Monchengladbach took the lead against the run of play in the 31st minute as Herrmann picked out Raffael, who drilled his shot into the bottom corner.

The visitors doubled their advantage just before the break when Juan Arango found Kruse, leaving the forward to tuck the ball past Roman Weidenfeller with his left foot.

Kruse threatened again after the break when he was picked out by Herrmann, with the striker finding his drilled effort saved at the bottom corner.

Dortmund had a chance to pull a goal back when Kevin Grosskreutz caught hold of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's cross, but his header flew over the bar.

The visitors gave the hosts a potential route back into the game when Havard Nordtveit was shown a second yellow with just over 20 minutes to play.

It looked as though a Dortmund comeback was on the cards when Milos Jojic fired home from outside the box, but Gladbach pulled down the hatches for the final 10 minutes to earn an important three points away from home.
