Lucien Favre admits that Borussia Monchengladbach must establish themselves in the top half before becoming regular European hopefuls.

Borussia Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre has insisted that the club's target this season is to remain a solid top-half side.

Gladbach have finished in the upper echelons of the league for the past two seasons, managing fourth and eighth respectively.

Favre, however, said that to become one of the Bundesliga's top sides will take time and that they must remain consistent first.

"We knew from the off [last season] that we wouldn't be able to repeat our fourth place of the season before," Favre told Bundesliga.com.

"[We must] maintain the process of stabilisation. Look at Borussia's results over the past 20 years. If we're up in the top half of the table for the third time in a row, that will be very good indeed."

Gladbach completed the signing of Raffael from Schalke 04 in June to bolster the squad ahead of the new campaign.
