Borussia Monchengladbach claim sixth successive win

Borussia Monchengaladbach claim a sixth successive Bundesliga victory by beating Hertha Berlin 4-1 in the capital.

Borussia Monchengladbach have claimed a sixth successive Bundesliga victory by beating Hertha Berlin 4-1 in the capital to continue the impressive resurgence under Andre Schubert, whose side have moved into the Champions League qualification spots for the first time this season.

The Foals dominated possession from the first whistle, but it could have been a very different afternoon had Salomon Kalou not miscued a header after finding space in the box.

Missing an early opportunity would come back to haunt the hosts as Fabian Johnson timed his run well to collect a pass in the box, before pressure from Rune Jarstein saw the ball break loose to Oscar Wendt, who kept his composure to finish emphatically.

The lead was quickly doubled as Raffael skipped past a couple of challenges on the edge of the box before picking out the top corner with a powerful strike.

Gladbach controlled the game either side of the half-time interval, and they were gifted the chance to put the result beyond doubt before the hour mark.

Sebastian Langkamp attempted to halt Ibrahima Toure with a pull of the shirt, but his foul was punished with a penalty and Granit Xhaka stepped up to send his effort straight down the middle from 12 yards.

Gladbach rarely looked troubled until offering Hertha a late consolation when Andreas Christensen brought down Genki Haraguchi, which allowed Alexander Baumjohann to slot home a penalty of his own.

It was Schubert's side who had the final say in stoppage time as Marvin Schulz picked out Havard Nordtveit, who powered home a fine finish to make it another successful day for Gladbach.
