Eddie Howe's Bournemouth gain promotion to the Championship following Brentford's 1-1 draw at Hartlepool United.

Brentford's 1-1 draw at Hartlepool United this evening has resulted in Bournemouth being promoted to the Championship.

Earlier in the day Eddie Howe's team moved to the top of the League One standings following their 3-1 home victory over Carlisle United, while Doncaster Rovers, who started the day at the summit, lost 1-0 at home to Notts County.

Those results meant that Brentford needed to gain all three points from their trip to the North East to ensure that Bournemouth would have to wait until the final day of the season next weekend to secure automatic promotion.

Uwe Rosler's men were unable to claim a win though, meaning that the Cherries go up, leaving Doncaster and Brentford, who play each other next Saturday, to battle it out for the other promotion slot.

A draw from that encounter will be enough for Donny to go up with Bournemouth, but Brentford must win the match.
