Former Brazil international Sylvinho admits that he was "worried" about Neymar before the World Cup began.

Former Brazil international Sylvinho has admitted that he was "worried" about Neymar before the World Cup began.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward, whose domestic season ended in February due to an ankle injury, recovered in time for the World Cup and scored his first goal in Brazil's 2-0 win over Costa Rica.

Sylvinho, who is part of the team's coaching staff, said that Neymar is "getting better" as the tournament progresses.

"He's a very important player, because he's one of the best in the world," the 44-year-old said. "We were worried about him a month ago, because we didn't know how Neymar would be in the national team — when a player like him is out for three-and-a-half months with an injury, it's very difficult.

"But he's unbelievable, a special player, he's getting fit and he can improve. He's a nice guy and an incredibly strong player.

"His mind is really clear and he's helping us a lot. He's getting better. We're expecting more, he's growing up in the competition and we hope to see a great Neymar."

Brazil's next game at the finals is a last-16 tie with Mexico on Monday evening.
