Preview: Wycombe Wanderers vs. Brentford - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship fixture between Wycombe Wanderers and Brentford, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Brentford face Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Championship to five matches.

Meanwhile, after collecting seven points from four matches, last season's League One playoff winners head into this contest sitting just one point adrift of safety.

There have been times this season when Brentford have displayed the kind of swagger which took them agonisingly close to promotion last season.

However, their goalless draw with Middlesbrough before the international break was their third low-scoring stalemate in quick succession, highlighting that Thomas Frank has a job on his hands to keep his side in the mix.

Although they showed their clinical touch at Luton Town in their last away fixture, they are yet to fully adapt to playing at a new stadium.

That is putting extra pressure on games such at this one, and Frank will feel that his players need to deliver a statement performance to regain their fear factor.

Frank will also be demanding more goals from his squad with Ivan Toney and Marcus Forss scoring all but three of their efforts in the second tier this season.

Gareth Ainsworth will not care how Wycombe net their goals this season as long as they can continue to remain on an upward trajectory.

Losing at Nottingham Forest before the international break came as a blow to the minnows of the division, but there will be no shortage of positivity behind the scenes after their previous three-match unbeaten run.

The Chairboys have not conceded more than two goals in any of their last nine outings, a statistic which has gone unnoticed at a time when their survival hopes have been dismissed.

Scott Kashket's goalscoring form has helped the club get back into contention in recent weeks, but Ainsworth must keep veteran Adebayo Akinfenwa fit if Wycombe are to retain a much-needed physical presence in the final third.

Team News

Akinfenwa is expected to be handed a recall after beginning the defeat at the City Ground on the substitutes' bench.

Garath McCleary is also pushing for an appearance in the Wycombe XI after making his first outing of the campaign.

Saman Ghoddos will hope to earn a recall to the Brentford side in place of Sergi Canos.

While Christian Norgaard and Pontus Jansson are making progress in their recovery from injuries, neither is expected to start at the weekend.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Allsopp; Grimmer, Knight, Stewart, Jacobson; Thompson; Onyedinma, Kashket, Mehmedi, Horgan; Akinfenwa

Brentford possible starting lineup:
Raya; Dalsgaard, Pinnock, Sorensen, Henry; Jensen, Janelt, Dasilva; Mbuemo, Toney, Canos

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 0-3 Brentford

Despite Wycombe's efforts before the international break, we feel that the time to regroup will only benefit Brentford. While the home side could be competitive during the early stages, we are backing the Bees to run out comfortable winners at the weekend.
